Later this month I'll be on a panel about comics for kids.
It's for Splat!
A Graphic Novel Symposium at the New
York Center for Independent Publishing. It's being
held in NYC on March 15th.
They've got a great line up of super talented guest. It sounds
like a ton of fun. I'm honored to participate.
Knights
of the Lunch Table Cover
February
4th, 2008

Here is the final cover for Knights
of the Lunch Table book #1, The Dodgeball
Chronicles. I worked on the book for a better part
of a year and only now does it seem real to me. The book will
be out in July.
Now, it's back to work on Knights book 2.
Give
to the Old Newsboys
December
14th, 2007

It's that time again, it's old newsboys' season. Every year
I illustrate at least one of the covers for the holiday campaign.
The Old Newsboys
is a charity sponsored by the The
Post-Standard to raise money for local children
in need. If you're in CNY this weekend and see someone hawking
one of these special edition newspapers, pick one up, it's
for a good cause.
Knights
of the Lunch Table #1: Completed
December
3rd, 2007

Free at last! Free at last! I'm done with book one. It weighs
in at 144 full color pages. I'm told it will be out in July
08.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to re-introduce myself to
my family and friends.
Otto's
Orange Day
November
19th, 2007

I know it's been a long time since I posted and you're probably
wondering what I've been up to. Well, I've been busy working
on Knights of the Lunch Table.
It's in the final stages of production and I should be done
in a couple of weeks. Producing a graphic novel has been quite
an experience. More on that later.
But right now, I want to talk about another project. I've
had the honor of illustrating and co-creating a story for
Toon
Books. That's the new line of kids comics
by Francoise Mouly
and Art Spiegelman.
The book is called Otto's Orange
Day and I colaborated with the great underground
cartoonist Jay Lynch.
It was a blast to work on and will be out spring 08.
That's all for now, back to the drawing board, only 40 pages
to go!
Hart
Seely's New Book!
June
1st, 2007

My good friend and occasional writing partner Hart Seely
has a new book out.
Hart previously penned Pieces
of Intelligence, the Poetry of Donald Rumsfeld.
This time out he's written a book of political nursery rhymes.
It's called Mrs.
Goose Goes to Washington . This book is
great. It's cutting, mean-spirited and wickedly hilarious
(in all the right ways, to all the RIGHT people).
Go buy a copy before it gets banned!

By the way, the fellow above is named Artie. He's the star

Prince
Valiant
February
18th, 2007

In my quest for inspiration for the Knights
of the Lunch Table, I've rediscovered
Prince Valiant. It has been years
since I really looked at this strip. Of course the art by
Hal Foster is incredible, but what I didn't remember was the
engaging story. It must have been fantastic to open up the
sunday funnies and read these masterpieces.
I find that one of the hardest things to do when I'm working
on a big project, is to stay inspired. Prince Valiant has
certainly helped me. I have even gone as far as buying a DVD
of the 1950's movie, starring Robert Wagner and Janet Leigh.
It's really quite a bit of fun, in a hokey 50's swashbuckling
way.
I can only hope that I may capture some of the magic and
excitement for my own book.
Knights
Quest
January
24th, 2007

It has begun. I've started the first Knights
of the Lunch Table book. Actually, I've been
knee deep in the project for months. Watching films, doing
research and just getting the feel for the setting. I've become
a bit of an authority on Authurian legends.
I recently finished the script. Let me tell you, that was
quite a quest. Writing does not come as easy to me as drawing
does. But, for all the revisions, I feel pretty good about
it. Soon I will start to pencil. That is when the real fun
begins.
